The materials are mixed and molded under high pressure, or cured, to reach the required strength, and may be finished with a colored material and a synthetic oxide additive. As with clay tile, concrete tiles come in a wide variety of styles, profiles, colors and finishes. Concrete tiles are created out of varying proportions of cement, sand and water. They generally have lugs on their undersides for anchoring to batten strips, and additional water locks, or interlocking ribs, on the longitudinal edges, which impede movement and prevent water infiltration.
